Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I'm a first-grade teacher working in a Title I school. This is a low-income area where the majority of my students are underprivileged. My school currently serves approximately 8 shelters that include services for the homeless and drug rehabilitation centers.
Every day, I come to work with the motivation of making a difference in the life of a child.
My students don't have the privilege of coming to school with technological devices and other materials of their own. Although my students face many personal challenges daily, I try to provide them with the best education possible. I want them to have access to all the materials and resources that will allow them to learn and grow independently as the year evolves.
My students mean the world to me! Their happiness is my happiness! With the help of the DonorsChoose.org community, my students will have the chance to have a successful academic year. One that involves hands-on learning, comfort, smiles, and fun.
My Project
It's time for new furniture! Our class is outdated and so are our desks. Many of them have cracks, dents, and unbalanced legs. We've had these desks since the opening of our school in 1997. As students write on them, they move all around making it uncomfortable for them to write or read on.
Times are changing, and so should our furniture!
I want my students to have the privilege of being in a room where the desk they read and write on no longer shakes or breaks! I want them to be proud of their classroom, and their area of work. I want every child to know that Public Schools are great places to be and that they deserve the best resources possible. I want my students to come in every day encouraged, comfortable, and positive that my classroom is their home away from home.
These three tables will fill our hearts! We will be able to replace our old tables and put some comfort and color into our room. My students will be able to work cooperatively in groups as well as individually. They will be able to have a firm surface that will allow them to embark in creativity, reading, and writing. These tables will help us establish various rotations, centers for learning, and experiment areas. Most importantly, it will give my students the comfort and happiness they need! Anything helps!
