My students need a variety of flexible seating options in order to meet their academic and special needs. The wobble seats, stability chairs, and light covers will provide a customized learning environment for these students.
My students are a very diverse group of learners. They are bright, ambitious learners with an abundance of energy. They are eager to learn and willing to try new things.
Current research shows that students learn better when provided flexible seating options and alternative lighting.
Flexible seating allows students a choice of seating, as well as movement while seated. The lighting in classrooms is extremely important to learning also. One of the major causes of stress in schools is over-lighting. Fluorescent lights are the worst and their constant flickering is distracting and can cause headaches as well as reduce the amount of serotonin in the brain. Commercially produced light filters can be used over fluorescent fixtures to diffuse the light.
In an effort to promote optimal learning for all my students, I would like to create a classroom environment that offers flexible seating which generates movement and focus, as well as alternative lighting which will reduce stress and distractions.
My Project
By providing flexible seating and light enhancement within my classroom, my diverse learners will be able to address their personal needs, focus more effectively, and reach optimal learning.
Flexible seating options will provide students who struggle with the need to move and those with special needs such as ADHD and OHI to engage in needed movement, while staying engaged in the learning process.
Having the option of movement while working, allows students to release their energy in a positive manner. In doing so, students are engaged more effectively in the learning process with less class distractions. We need stools, Wobble Chairs and more.
Using fluorescent light filters in the classroom softens the lighting, which reduces stress, lessens distractions, improves focus, and optimizes the learning process for students.
