Help me give my students flexible seating and a lamp for working around the room. Students in 1st grade need to move around the room to work independently, in groups, or just to read!
I have a class of 22 wonderful 1st graders! Most people say “That takes a special person to do that!” 1st grade is such a fun group of students. Most 1st graders come to me with some form of reading skills. These skills range from only knowing part of the alphabet to reading on a 1st grade level or higher! You never know what they will tell you or do! Watching them grow makes it all worthwhile!
My students come from a variety of backgrounds and cultures, but most share economic status.
Our school qualifies for 100% free breakfast and lunch for our students. Some students come to school ready to learn despite the challenges they face outside of school however some struggle daily. These items will help them have a calmer day and different choices for seating!
My Project
At the beginning of the school year, I added alternative lighting to my classroom. This seems to help with self-calming, a calmer mood in the classroom, and the lighting has also helped with our room transformations. The students remind me if I forget to turn them on! I would love to be able to add a floor lamp to my lighting. The lamp I chose has switches on each shade so I can control how much or how little light I want!
Lights, Seating, Action will not only help us with our alternative lighting, it will also allow us some new seating!
My students move around the room daily to read independently, work on learning games, or work with a partner. These ottomans will allow them more options for comfort. I have 2 child size couches and it is a RACE to sit on them. I believe these new ottomans will be a great addition to our alternative seating we already use at the tables!
I am also wanting some fidget bands for the chairs. Some of my students show more energy than they can control. By adding these fidget bands, to some of the chairs, it will allow students to bounce their feet on them to release some of the excess energy! My goal is to have a calm, comfortable, and fun classroom!
