My students need specialized instruction and an environment suited to their individual needs. Variable lighting and seating will help them maintain their control.
Students who come into my room are often frustrated with school. They are at-risk and struggling. They have learning, social-emotional and behavior needs. They work on study skills, academics, life skills and are planning for their future beyond 12th grade.
Students need and want a place where they can feel safe and are comfortable.
My room is where they can let their guards down and truly be who they are without judgement. Here is where the barriers are broken down and they take charge of their learning.
My Project
Alternate seating/lap desks will give students a choice and allow for movement that is hindered by traditional seating. It will also allow for small group collaboration or for a student to separate themselves for independent work.
Both seating and lighting options will allow for the needed accommodations of various learning styles and has an impact on how students learn.
Florescent lighting often triggers migraines, seizures and behavioral issues. These LED floor lamps will reduce this effect and can be adjusted to gives us lots of light on cloudy days or dimmed to calm the atmosphere. It will also provide variable lighting in different parts of the room depending on the activity or student needs.
