Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students are special because they're the youngest in the school, but still meet the same high expectations that our school has for excellence in academic and behavior. They are kind, empathetic, and learning to be problem solvers. As a Great Expectations Model School, we strive to build character along with building knowledge of core subjects.
Because we are a Pre-K class, the majority of our learning is done through hands-on projects.
My students are creative, hard-working, and surprise me daily with great ideas and innovative solutions to real-world problems.
My Project
For this project, I am requesting a light table for my classroom as well as translucent building tiles so students can explore science objectives related to light and shadows through hands-on learning.
With access to a light table, learning possibilities in all subjects are endless.
Students can even bring in items from nature, such as fall leaves, to explore at the light table so that they can examine the veins that run throughout the leaves. Light tables can also be used for retelling stories with puppets or paper dolls, and even allow students to create their own stories with these props.
A light table would benefit our classroom across all of our curriculum, but especially as engineers and storytellers.
