My students need a color changing light table to enhance their sensory learning experiences. My students have a very short attention span and it is very challenging to keep their interest.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach a cross-categorical preschool classroom for children with special needs. The students in my classroom are three to five years old. There is a wide variety of disabilities within the class such as significant developmental delays, autism, down syndrome, and communication disorders.
The students in my class may have special needs, but they are all shining stars to me and have the ability to go far in life when given the right tools and resources.
The students come to school ready to learn. They love to explore centers and classroom activities. My students keep busy all day!
Working with these students brightens my day by seeing the achievements they continually make.
My Project
A light table would be used to peak a child's interest from open-ended play, art, crafts to teaching academic skills: math, science, literacy, and writing. My students would be engaging in activities, staying in their area, increasing their attention span, and communication skills. In addition, students with sensory needs would experience vivid colors and details in nature. My students would be learning, experimenting and having fun.
Children like to pretend and dress up as a community helper.
A favorite community helper is a veterinarian. I would like to purchase the veterinarian outfit and kit to put in the drama center for the students to enjoy.
