it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Reading is truly newsworthy!
I want my students to report on books they love by filming their own "Reading Rainbow" style oral book reports as a segment on our classroom news channel. Acting as reporters, anchors and camera-kids will build their identity as readers, their oral language skills, their social skills... and their love of literature through technology. Our school is stocked with computers, but we have no video camera... and that's where you can help!
Writing scripts, acting out scenes from their favorite stories, presenting information about books to their peers, and writing reports for a news channel are all activities that may seem too challenging for six year olds. Not in this case! My students are enthusiastic about drama, books, technology, writing and news... and though my students are English Language Learners from low-income communities, they are the epitome of 21st century thinkers obsessed with technology!
A small, handheld video camera will make it easy for my students to film each other. The convenient USB drive will make it easy for me to upload and edit their videos for our classroom news channel!
Please help us turn boring book-reports into exciting news podcasts! Your support will help keep the enthusiasm level of my students at an all-time high when they get the opportunity to be "in the movies" :) What a great way to bridge technology and literature... and what a great way for me to showcase the superstar readers in my class!
