My students need 4 "Shakespeare Made Easy" adaptations, along with assorted arts supplies, including construction paper, scissors, poster board, markers and glue.
I teach seventh-grade reading at a middle school with a population of 77% free and reduced lunch. Our middle school, which used to be a high school and was converted in 2003 to house 6th, 7th, and 8th graders, has about 700 students.
I teach three different levels of reading classes, based on standardized-testing scores. My goal is to improve their comprehension skills, as well as their love of reading, by differentiating instruction. With my high class, I like to expose them to literature at their level, and challenge them to think and analyze the literature that they are reading at a deeper level.
My high level students are crazy about literature! My goal is to teach an introductory unit on Shakespeare that will expose them to the literature and inspire them to want to read more. Part of the unit requires them to read and analyze an act from a popular Shakespearean play, translate it, then create a modernized version of the act. We need some copies of some of Shakespeare's plays, as well as materials to use in our sets for the scene creations.
My students need some copies of Shakespeare's plays. These copies will be given to the students to read and analyze. They will then create a modernized version of the scene based on what they've read and interpreted. Next, they will need posterboard, glue, construction paper, paint markers, scissors, and markers to create their own sets and scenery.
As a former student, my best memories are of the creative and hands-on activities my teachers involved me in. As a teacher, I try to bring the same to my students. By donating to our Shakespeare project you are helping my students build connections with literature that aren't possible by just reading it. You are giving them a chance to experience things that they will remember for the rest of their lives.
