Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My Student Council leaders and I love to spread kindness, empathy, and school spirit through our school news. Before COVID, we were able to do this through the school news called Leopard News.

It was the ultimate project based learning environment where students work collaboratively; they brainstormed ideas, collaboratively wrote scripts together, and filmed their work on many different topics from the news, recaps, school wide behavioral expectations, and even DIYs!

Many students even learned to edit their videos for my final edit. We were a well oiled machine where older students trained the younger students. But our machine came to a screeching halt when COVID came and it's been a rough start!

To make our news purposeful, we'd like to celebrate diversity by including Black History Month. My students and I'd like to spread kindness, empathy, and acceptance using the power of Leopard news and education. Together in groups, students will feature famous and lesser known black leaders, scientist, and important figures. If successful, we'd love to extend our news include Women's History Month, Asian American Pacific Islander Heritage Month, and more!

Please help us get started by replacing outdated, broken, and misplaced equipment. We need a Fujifilm mirrorless camera to create an updated look to our news to get my students excited about filming again. Please help me bring back positivity, inclusion back to our school with this new mirrorless camera!
