My students need the tools to begin to learn digital editing. We are working on taking some normal "assignments" to the next level with movie making and reports through our STEM learning stations.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
We are an innovative school located in and serving the students in a large urban school district. We have a magnet interest in the Environment and are working towards being STEM certified school.
Our students are capable, they are just often behind grade level because of moving, family struggles, poverty, and language barriers.
We work exceptionally hard at keeping students engaged in not just the ability to do, but the desire to understand why things work and how they can affect the world around them.
My Project
These tools will allow us to teach the students the basics of digital editing. The purchases will allow students to graduate from basic filming and green screen use with Stikbot figuires and application editing to full body shots of themselves using the lighting and full ChromaKey green screen. The tripods will allow us to use the already owned iPads to film while protecting the iPad's.
What better way to become engaged in a book report, than actually creating a book review movie though and building on our STEM station tools?
It is difficult to get older students involved in presentations and standard reports, and these tools will make that exciting and new while teaching a new skill.
The green screen will allow us to take students to "who new worlds" through editing backgrounds and locations while using the Green Screen Backdrop to alter locations. As the computer science teacher I will teach the basics of editing and the teachers will be assigning report presentations that can be done using the tools they have experienced through STEM stations. The digital editing and presentation skills will meld well with all disciplines and work on our STEM embedding throughout our building.
