Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am in a school that is 96% poverty. I want to give my students the same opportunities that other schools have as far as technology. They need to experience as much technology as I can provide for them with the resources I have available. I need to prepare them for life.
I am in a school in Chicago.
I have been with my students for 4 weeks now, and I see so much potential in them. All they need are the right materials to get them where they need to be. They are fun and smart, and I have bonded with them to the point where I want to take their education to the next level. When I read with them, we act out scenes in a story for them to better understand the material presented. I want to put on plays with them.
My Project
I believe this project will give students the opportunity to create their own scenes from a theme and not just the ones we read during reader's theater. This will open up a whole new world for them as far as helping them reach their creativity. They are in 8th grade, and one of my goals is to make this the BEST year for them. I want to put on a play with the students, as well as do what is called "Reader's Theater." This is an activity where students act out parts of a book to get a better understanding of various scenes. My students need a video camera, case, and printer for putting on plays and reader's theater.
Having technology such as a camcorder, will give students that opportunity to have what other schools have.
They will be able to create a world through this piece of technology that they will not have otherwise. I want to give to my students the opportunity to be creative, to be inspired, and to appreciate the things we can make as a class, including both plays and memories.
