My students need an Apple iPad and a movie slate board clapper in order to make videos on a variety of counseling related topics that can be viewed by the entire school.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The school counselors office is not what it used to be! Today, school counselors serve a vital role in the development of students. "Sometimes the questions are complicated and the answers are simple." - Dr. Seuss. Whatever the questions, the worries, the concerns...a school counselor is there!
My students are middle school students ranging from fifth grade to eighth grade.
Middle school is a TOUGH age group where peer relationships become a high priority in their lives. Well, along with peer relationships come social and emotional issues. Middle school is where students need tools and constant feedback about how to deal with certain situations at home and at school. Well, my students need all of those interventions times 10!!!! They struggle with friendships, relationships, home life situations, dealing with rejection and body changes, and often need a lot of guidance when formulating goals for future decisions.
As a middle school counselor, I aim to find innovative ways to meet the needs of all my students without putting them in a situation to feel embarrassed or scared to seek the help of an adult.
My Project
With an Apple iPad and movie slate board clapper my students along with myself would be able to generate videos that could be accessible to the entire school. It would give the students an opportunity to get involved in a positive school wide project and give them the autonomy to showcase some of their talents while providing positive messages to students on varying topics including: conflict resolution, Internet safety, safe dating, bullying, mean girls, suicide awareness, registering for high school, getting into college, preparing for standardized testing, and sooooo many other topics! Imagine...students using technology to help other students with issues meaningful to them!!!! Genius!!!!

It will give students at my school an opportunity to tap into issues that our students are having and providing them with tools and information on how to deal and cope with middle school. Many students suffer in silence, but this will be our way of taking the first step and reaching out a helping hand.
