My students need a Samsung tablet to create animations and music videos, and upload art to their digital gallery. The Elmo document camera allows them to see a larger projected view of art making demonstrations.
ERS School is a Title I school serving a small community in Georgia. Though it be little, the students are fierce and tenacious about learning.
SR students are warm and bright.
They are eager to learn about art and learn different processes of making art. Learning about art expands the students' world view. Making art improves the students' problem solving skills and allows them to exercise their creativity. Support for the SR Art Program helps my students develop these skills.
My Project
The students work very hard in my classroom to produce great art. They are proud to share it with others. They also enjoy using technology to enhance their learning about Visual Art. They love to watch me make examples every day, but it is hard to see from across the table. Throughout the year I use a website called Artsonia to post their artwork. Students take a photograph of their art, post the title, and type an artist statement about it. Parents can set up an account to view the art that they have posted. Students can see their growth in art by viewing their artsonia portfolio. Every year the music teacher and I collaborate on a music video project. The students write and record a song on Garageband in music class. When they are finished, they record and edit a music video in Art class. The video is premiered at the promotion ceremony at the end of the year. This teaches them about careers in art and video directing and editing.
The tools in this project support the student's online gallery and their music video project.
The Document camera allows students to see from my point of view as I am demonstrating making art examples. I can record while I am demonstrating and play the video again. The Samsung tablet has an artsonia app that allows easy access for students and myself to upload artwork. The tablet has a much better resolution than the camera we are using and will be better for their online portfolio. For their music video project, students will be able to record the video on the tablet. Then they will be able to edit the video in windows movie maker.
