Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Pablo Picasso once said, "The purpose of art is washing the dust of daily life off our souls." Every year as the director of our school play, I try to find opportunities for all students, including our budding artists, to develop their craft by participating in set design.
While I have built many relationships with community members in order to provide those opportunities, I work in a high-poverty school and many of my students do not have art materials needed to participate.
The set design crew who work to create backdrops and other props for the school play are a diverse group of Caucasian, Hispanic, African American, and/or Special Education and ESOL students. Due to socio-economic obstacles and decreased school budgets, they do not have access to the art materials needed for this extra curricular opportunity.
My Project
With brushes, backdrops, and other materials, our artists can have the chance to participate in real set design. This will give them the opportunity to see how their skills as artists can transfer to potential careers in the future. With the de-emphasis on the importance of the arts nation-wide, I think it is imperative that I help them see art's impact on our daily lives.
With your generosity, my students can have the supplies they need to create a vivid set design.
This will help them not only refine their artistic skills but help them set future career goals in the arts. Help our budding artists bloom!
