Lights! Camera! Action! Who doesn't like to see a picture of themselves? I know people always scan yearbooks or pictures to find themselves. Photography is a great way to encourage students in various classroom projects such as reports, writing prompts and creating PowerPoints.
Our school is a charter school located in Texas.
A charter school is a public school that only receives 85% funding from the government. Thus, we are faced with shortages in supplies and materials necessary in the classroom. We are an Exemplary school with a focus on Classical Education to prepare students for college. The students are also instructed in Music, Spanish, Art, Technology and PE. The mission of our school is to equip a diverse student body with a comprehensive education, including a special focus on Western civilization. Students will develop a commanding knowledge of the origins of our liberty and the ability to sustain it through moral leadership. We aim to accomplish this goal through a high level of academic instruction and high behavioral expectations. Our vision is to be an educational institution of academic excellence that provides a college preparatory, liberal arts curriculum delivered through a classical style of instruction.
My Project
We strive to use and teach technology to all of our students since it is an integral part of education and a necessity in learning and instruction. Due to the limited resources, we have to share many tools so our students acquire only a small amount of instruction in the different resources given to us. Currently, our charter school has eight kindergarten classes and will be expanding to nine kindergarten classes next year. We are sharing one camera between all the classes so our students are unable to use the camera in the different projects as often as they should. Ideally, the students should be able to take photographs and use them in various projects such as story telling, writing prompts, flow maps, PowerPoints, etc.
With at least one additional camera to our kindergarten, it will allow students to more fully incorporate technology into their daily learning and make them more adept in the technological world.
Photography creates excitement in the students and spurs them to great work since they love using technology. Photography allows the students to also use other technology such as computers and programs like PowerPoint to create amazing slide shows.
