As a K-8 STEM (and now) HS Yearbook teacher, I was able to get to know most of the kids in the school and experience firsthand their desire to learn, and the sheer joy of experiencing something new.
Each of my classes is full of a variety of personalities and with that comes a variety of learners.
Some students learn best by watching something done and listening to how a task can be accomplished, while others learn through doing. Those students thrive when they're given a chance to explore a concept while listening to their favorite songs so that they can concentrate.
The students in my school come from multiple cities, some traveling even as far as 60 minutes to school every single day in order to get a good education. It is my mission to do everything I can to help them succeed.
My Project
Just this semester, we've started a yearbook class for high school! It's my goal to create a great time capsule in this yearbook for all of the high schoolers, something that they will be able to look back on for decades to come.
In creating such an important piece of history, we first need the equipment to document these events!
Our K-12 school has some equipment available for use, but it's shared between quite a few other groups and isn't always available when we need it. With all the activities going on throughout the school and sharing equipment, it's difficult to keep up with the high demand of all the activities going on everywhere!
We need our own equipment in the form of cameras and camera equipment like microphones so that we can constantly have access to it when we need it so that we don't miss a single special event!
After our yearbook class gets their tasks and learns the new website, my next challenge is to create a broadcasting aspect to add in for the next school year! This is something our classes have advocated for a while and I'd love to help them out by giving them something that they can further their journalistic talents and showcase them for their high school classes to see.
