"Good morning, Mrs. H! What are we going to be learning about today?" These words are said almost every day that my students walk into my classroom every morning.
My students are sponges, eager to learn.
I love coming up with new adventures to take them on as we learn about science together. My students are intelligent, hardworking, and ambitious. They are fun, eager to learn new things, and are motivated to expand their knowledge base, especially in the STEM field.
I want the best for my students. I want them to succeed and know that it is important to ask questions and that I do not have all of the answers. I want to be able to help them as much as I can by providing the tools necessary to find the answers.
My Project
Whoa! Did you make that? How did you do that? That is so awesome! These wonderful phrases are uttered many times throughout my STEAM course. Students are learning through doing and engaged in meaningful discussions amongst their teams of "STEAM engineers." In my class, a typical class consists of me proposing a problem or question. Students will then research the problem and determine ways to solve it. They are able to use various ways to present their findings.
Being able to use various ways to present their findings, students will be proposed the problem, "How can we make Warrensburg more Earth-friendly?" My students will have access to various stop-motion kits to detail how they will make our town earth-fiendly.
They will research ways that Warrensburg is doing to be more environmentally friendly. Each group will then come up with ways that our town could be even better. Using their stop-motion animation kits, they will learn how to develop a short film to present to the class. This film clip will depict each group member discussing their solutions or a short movie on the group members creating this "green-solution" in Warrensburg. I will have various styles of stop-motion kits to choose from. Students can choose from Legos and Minecraft to create the skit. They can also use the Bloxels to build an Earth-friendly game.
Once all ideas are proposed, we would like to discuss the best ideas, voted on by the class, with our mayor to see if we could make our dreams a reality.
