I am moving grade levels this year and am so excited to teach fifth grade and have my old third graders back! We will be a self contained classroom, where I teach all subjects. I use a balanced literacy approach, hands on math and science instruction, and utilize technology when I can.
I teach in a Title One School in South Carolina.
Our school is a school of choice so we offer a traditional setting or Montessori. I teach traditional and over half of those students get free and reduced lunch. The school has faced budget cuts over the past few years in certain areas, but we do our best to provide our students with an equitable education. I believe all students can learn and want to prepare them for college or career.
My Project
I have several ideas of how I may incorporate the document camera in my classroom. I currently use a Promethean Board but I think the document camera will enhance the learning in my class. I will use the camera to project pages from books, to show 3D math manipulative, share science labs, etc. This particular camera has a built in video recording software so students can narrate things and upload them as digital files. While students are using the equipment, they are learning new technology which is important in today's society. This will also cut down on the number of copies that I will have to make each week.
I think this will help my students and myself.
Often times I just need to quickly show them something and cannot leave the room to go scan things. This will give me a quick solution to that. Also students will use the equipment to create digital files that can be shared or uploaded for later use. I am excited to see the many ways we can use the camera in the classroom.
