A picture is worth a thousand words, imagine how a video can tell thousands a story! In this digital age, students are fascinated by Youtube, iMovie, and feature films. My students have expressed their desire to record speeches, make short films, and explore creative ways of using digital film.
My students are creative, energetic, and always looking forward to a challenge.
They are very independent learners but also do very well in cooperative learning environments. Our school has always been at the forefront of new ideas, technologies, and creative approaches to implementing standards. A project like this is just the idea that would further excite my class to excel in their academics in a fun and creative way.
My Project
My students love using technology in our classroom and are always asking if they can implement videos into the projects we create. Our school is always encouraging students to think outside the box and what a better way to give them this opportunity with a digital video camera and equipment. Fourth grade can be quite a big leap in responsibilities and academic expectations. My students have embraced the new common core expectations of fourth grade and are excited to explore the use of video in mastering these standards. Students will learn how to film, edit, and produce their own videos. They can watch class speeches and receive feedback. Students have also expressed having a district film festival to display work at the end of the school year.
The use of a digital video camera in the classroom will open up new and creative ideas for students in their completion of assignments.
The ability to work collaboratively with others to create a final project is a life long skill. Students will be able to write scripts, sketch plot frames for filming purposes, learn to direct, edit, add special effects, narrate, place tracks of music, and tell their own individual story through the use of a digital video camera.
