My students need storytelling kits and puppets for our new puppet theater and a tablet which would add a recording aspect for the students in the audience encouraging great participation!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Imagine the great adventures our kids could experience! Our stage is set, but we have no actors. I teach about 800 kids K-1. We have a beautiful puppet theater and we need puppets to make their imaginations spark! Puppets allow kids to bloom and be themselves. Creativity in action!
The students I teach are from a Title 1 school district in Texas.
There are no opportunities for them to participate in puppetry, or drama within our city. This type of activity could produce potential singers, actresses, and drama participants. I am encouraging them to reach new heights this year. We do music in my class but I'm incorporating puppetry as well as reader's theater. That is basically a play written in a form younger kids can read and bring to life with inflections, and expression.
The tablet would allow kids to record each other performing plays, puppets,and reading stories in reader's theater.
Later the students will be able to watch their performances. It would actively engage those recording the program as well as keep the performers on task. This theater and everything that happens in it will nourish the creativity within each child. It will provide avenues for kids to flourish and come alive in their own unique ways.
My Project
Moving beyond music I have decided to inspire my students to explore more avenues within the arts. Implementing puppets and reader's theater into my curriculum will apply reading, language development, and expression. Students will be eager to participate in the fun, and laughter; and the learning will automatically occur. Shy students could transform when given the chance to hide behind a puppet! They will support their classmates with encouragement. We will be able to make books come alive! I use literature concepts to make connections with music. For the example, I use "The Tortoise and the Hare" for the concept of fast and slow. With a tablet the puppet performance can be recorded and viewed at a later time. I want my students to lack nothing and able to reach for their dreams. My students will grow in all areas of their lives. The timid will skyrocket. The storytellers will become more secure in their craft. The technology will inspire some students to explore other interests.

I think by providing the puppets, and the tablet, my students will make memories that will last a lifetime. The students will be given more opportunities to be creative... not limited by the absence of materials. All the shared experiences with their peers will create a unity and care for individuals and their abilities and gifts. You never know what a student may be stimulated to pursue due to this experience.
