My Students

As the science specialist for our entire school, I see all 375 students from grades PreK-5th grade. They come to my class for 45 minutes a week, every year they are at our school, and I do my best to make science fun and engaging, while helping them learn about the world around us.

My students are wonderful little people, who love to move, love attention, and do best when they are physically engaged with their learning.

Almost all of them come from economically-disadvantaged neighborhoods, and many have grown up experiencing trauma and uncertainty. Having fun in my class, and learning through hands-on creative activities, is my goal!

My Project

Energy is a hot topic in science and the world today! It is part of our state science standards, and learning about energy is fun when you're storing energy in rubber bands and at the top of marble ramps, and designing your chain reaction machine and then trying it out! These STEM materials allow great hands-on activities for students of all ages, and the building materials will last us for years!

My students are learning about energy and how it can be stored and released, by making rubber band cars, marble ramps, chain reactions, and flashlights.

The building blocks and dominoes will help create chain reaction machines. The "buildable cars" are so we can experiment with the energy and motion of cars on ramps. The bulbs and batteries are for the students to make and take mini flashlights. The cups, beads, and rubber bands are for the rubber band cars.

The cleaning supplies are so we don’t spread colds and viruses while having fun with our hands-on materials! The ink will be so I can create vocabulary cards in color, which will help us to understand and remember new vocabulary words better.
