Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I teach fourth grade in the Rio Grande Valley in Mission, Texas that is 100% rural. Our students are from low-income families which qualifies and depends on government funds to survive and 100% of the students qualify for free lunch. All my students are at risk and English language learners. I have an incredible group of students; unfortunately, they come from a lower income area which many of them do not have resources available to them at home. Although there are barriers, all the students are eager to learn how to read, do science research papers, and write. Each child has a unique charisma to them bringing smiles to those around them.
My Project
I am requesting 5 RCA Tablets for my fourth graders to use. My students will use these tablets throughout the day, but especially during reading, math, science, and writing. Audiobooks allow my students to read independently at their level and assess their reading comprehension, use interactive programs that enable the students to further their understanding of math concepts, as well as self-assessment, and science applications that will enable them to explore the world around them enabling them to feed their curiosity. Nearly all of my students come from a low-income household; by acquiring these tablets for them, they'll get a chance of learning new forms of technology giving them the skills required to become technologically literate.
