My Students
My students come to me ready to take on the world! These kids are bright, hopeful, energetic learners that make every day an adventure. They are voracious readers. One of my favorite stories is from my first year of teaching where one of my students took it upon himself to write new comic books for the classroom library. He had several installments which his classmates LOVED!
We are a small, Title I school full of great potential.
Meeting every single need of all of my students isn't feasible (although I try my best!), but giving them love and a passion for learning IS!
My Project
Our classroom currently has two old wooden bookshelves that are sagging and worn. I took them home one summer and repaired and repainted them but the general wear and tear of a first grade classroom has taken its toll on them. These shelves are also too narrow to use the new book bins that have been purchased. I will be reorganizing the books to make it easier for my students to quickly find books on their level instead of digging through the hand-me-down tubs from second grade. Also, I have a great collection of big books that do not have any shelves! I would love to be able to display them and make them more accessible to my kiddos. Hopefully, my next project will help me with that! Organization is essential to learning and these shelves would be such a great help!
