As students in low income/single-parent family homes, my students are faced with several challenges both in and out of the classroom. To combat the many challenges they face, I am looking to keep things simple and provide my students with creative and meaningful learning experiences. The students in my room like to move; they love to read and need a lot of positive attention.
Many are students with a range of disabilities, emotional disturbance, and specific learning disabilities.
These things may prevent them from getting ahead early in life and may deprive them of life experiences many of us see as “typical.” From the minute they walk in the door of my classroom, I focus on their potential and growth while they are with me. I may not be able to control their home lives, however I can certainly control their experiences during the school day. By doing this in a creative way, I am hopeful to inspire even our earliest learners to continue on a path of academic excellence.
My Project
Currently the children in my classroom do not have an science toys. I would like to provide an area in the classroom for science discovery. The Space savor color changing light table is the perfect first start in creating an atmosphere of discovery and learning. We’re hoping this will excite the children and foster a love for science. We’re also asking for the first light table discovery set to accompany the light up table so the children will have materials to work with and build their fine motor skills. We are in high need of cots as well our current ones are broken.
