Sturgis, SD is my hometown where I attended school, my children attend and I currently teach 2nd grade. I love that I get to teach and live where I was taught and raised.
I have a classroom of 23 second grade students who are fun-loving and hard-working.
My students enter our classroom with lots of enthusiasm and possess a love for school. Everyday is a new day and they can't wait to see what new things they are going to learn. As an educator I love keeping our classroom fun and connecting it to real life experiences. I feel so lucky to be teaching our future authors, doctors, teachers, athletes, musicians and scholars. My 23 students are all connected by homes in rural South Dakota. About 47% of our students qualify for free or reduced lunches. About 1/4 of the students in my class receive special education services. Our class is very special to me because of their curiosity and their love of learning. They are excited to come to school each day and embrace each task given. Learning with my second graders each day is truly a blessing.
My Project
I would like to do "Flashlight Friday" reading time to motivate my second graders to do some individual and buddy reading with flashlights. We read everyday and I would like to reward our students while encouraging them with some weekly fun reading time.
Please consider lighting up our learning with flashlights and boogie boards!
I would also like to utilize LCD Boogie Boards to also light up their learning! We would use the LCD boards daily as we practice math strategies, spelling words etc. This would be a great way to practice skills rather than using whiteboards and markers, as our markers are toxic and dry out quickly.
