I'm the proud teacher of 12 amazing students. My unique classroom consists of a multi grade classroom of kindergarten through third grade Hutterite students. My students range from learning English to being fluent English speakers. Their first language is German, which they only speak at home. As their teacher, I work to preserve and respect their culture while providing them an educational experience that will help prepare them for an integrated learning experience while exposing my students to 21st century skills .
It has been a great journey as I learn about their culture as they learn about the culture of America as well.
My students are genuinely respectful and come to school with a thirst for learning new information. They are active learners who enjoy reading and listening to stories each day. Their favorite part of the day is story time as we dive deeply into learning about reading and analyzing text. It has been a great school year and look forward to providing them with more tools, resources and technology to ensure their success continues next school year!
My Project
My students love listening to stories and being read to each day during our literacy block. With this project I am ready to light up the fire with my students and their reading by being able to provide them with Amazon Fire Tablets so they can listen to more digital books online. This will give them exposure to a larger variety of genres of books. They will also be able to practice reading fluency and building their comprehension skills as they work independently with the kindles each day.
Many of my students do not get a lot of exposure to technology on a daily basis and these fire tablets will allow me to help expose my students to 21st century skills and digital learning at the same time.
It's important for my students to have this experience with reading so they continue to grow their love of reading each day. Reading is a skill that is needed throughout their life. It is important to develop a strong foundation in literacy, comprehension and analyzing text.
