Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students love to come to school each day. I strive to make it a welcoming environment that every child can learn in. We have built a community in our classroom that allows each student to be comfortable with who they are. Even though we are a diverse school, everyone feels included.
About ninety-five percent of my students are receiving free or reduced-price breakfast.
Many students are living with a single parent or both parents work full time, although many parents are eager to help in any way they can.
My Project
I have a very diverse classroom this year. Since I teach kindergarten, many of the students come in with disabilities that have not been diagnosed. I have many students that display autism and ADHD characteristics. Because of the diverse needs of my classroom, I have had to change my classroom structure to fit the needs of the students. This is why most of the learning taking place is done in small groups. My students have a hard time focusing in larger groups.
I would like to make a light table that will allow my students to use translucent materials as they practice important skills.
I can use a storage container, paint, and LED lights to make a table that transmits lights through the top of the box. The translucent materials will help reinforce shapes, letters, sounds, and many other concepts. I will use the ice cubes to add stickers of concepts we are working on.
We do guided reading daily to help my students become strong readers. These scented pencils are used to help students follow words on a page. It makes reading fun!
