I teach theatre integration! All grades (K-6) visit my classroom at least once a week to learn language arts, STEM, and social studies through theatre. There are a lot of us...
We are 21st-century learners-- 717 kids strong!
Collaborating, creating, communicating, and laughter are all part of the day's work for us. Learning through theatre is different, but rewarding. My students love to share with their families what they've done in class. Younger students often ask me if they'll be learning what their older siblings learned.
In our theatre integration class, performing is our culminating assessment. When you perform, it's important to be seen! Lighting makes this possible.
While the pandemic makes onstage performances difficult, these lights will illuminate our students as they perform on a green screen, and maintain use when we can get back onstage.
Lights are an excellent means of providing students with a real-life STEAM experience. In the past, we've borrowed lights, but we can't always rely on borrowing. My students loved being lighting designers and developing skills they can take to secondary school and their adult professions. They grew in confidence as they designed and ran lights for our actors.
These lights, bars, and board will be a great first step in building our school stage lighting facilities.
