From my first year at my school to now, I have seen immense growth with my students. They have pushed themselves to great places and I want to help them go further.
My students are most successful through project-based learning and hands-on approaches; they are very active.
There's no downtime. We keep our students busy with projects in music. We plan to become a well-known school that produces future musicians.
Our students come from Hispanic, making up seventy-four percent of our students, and African-American descents, making up twenty-one percent. Our neighborhoods are made up of working-class families with most in poverty, but this does not stop our students from success.
In April, our 4th and 5th graders will be putting on their first musical, The Lion King Kids - and we want to dazzle our community and show we can achieve high fine arts standards. Currently, we do not have a lighting system to dazzle our community. We show most of our concerts in our gym with the overhead lights on.
Lighting will help our students be seen, give them a greater theater experience, and allow our students to learn about stagecraft.
We plan to take this further with our youth, engaging them in stagecraft and theater design.
This will also help us out for future concerts and shows as well creating a higher atmosphere for the arts in our community.
