Help me give my students fluorescent light filters, two Room Essentials 5-head Floor Lamps, and CFL light bulbs to provide a calming atmosphere for learning.
Our school contains a diverse population of students ranging from low- to middle-income families. We have a strong bond with the community and participate in several events with our neighbors to foster a positive learning environment.
We are receiving training on trauma informed interventions and strategies, making us a trauma-informed school.
We realize the prevalence that trauma has on students, we recognize the impact of trauma on our students' development, we respond in a trauma-informed way, and we resist re-traumatization.
My Project
Light filters will create a calming atmosphere, eliminating the harsh glare from our fluorescent lights. These lights can cause eye strain and headaches, but the use of the filters may help prevent these irritations. The floor lamps and CFL light bulbs will provide a softer light around the classroom in place of the overhead lighting. These light fixtures can also be moved around the room as needed for optimal use.
I want to light up the way for my students to learn!
My students deserve a classroom "oasis" in a world filled with so many distractions and stimuli. Many students are coming from and bringing stressful situations to school with them. Using alternative lighting to provide a peaceful atmosphere is one way that I can provide them with a way to relax. If students are stressed, then they cannot focus on learning. Less stress, more learning!
