Students of our high school's Technical Theatre studio are creative and eager problem solvers. They are leaders and team members. As the foundation of a collaborative art form, our students must learn to handle diverse situations under the pressure of "opening night" timelines.
Technical Theatre is a dynamic art that encompasses aspects of many many disciplines both creative and logical.
Lines are drawn both curvy and straight. Students can rip a sheet of plywood or a bolt of muslin, hang a dress to dry, or hang a state-of-the-art automated lighting fixture. The goal is the same: to be the backbone to live performance at our school.
Technical Theatre is a state-certified Career and Technical Eduation (CTE) program that prepares our young people for both college and entry into the workforce. We embrace how the skills of this field extend to many other fields. Leadership, problem solving, and communication are parts critical components of the craft.
My Project
Bring light to the world in which the student theatre technicians work. Theatres are often dark places. The ability to bring one's own light improves a student's ability to work safely and effectivley.
These headlamps will allow students to bring illumination to their work areas when other methods are not practical while allowing for both hands to be free and usable.
Ironically, the lighting students most often find themselves in dimmed and darkened areas. They must control the light they have to not negatively affect the stage lighting designs. Set crew and costume crews also have often the need to bring bright focused light to their work area.
Headlamps are a typical standard tool for theatre craftspersons. Once the houselights are dimmed, they must carry their own means of hands-free illuminance.
