Light Up the Science with a New LCD Projector!

My students need a new LCD projector to light up the science they learn. Fairness in the classroom begins with equal access to the instructional materials!

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The LCD projector is like another organ through which my students observe the thought-provoking science materials I prepare for them. But this organ is getting old and yellow, and needs an urgent replacement. Please help ease my students' eyes with a new projector!

We are a Title One school, with 65% of our students being eligible for lunch coupons.

Our students, including my 9th and 10th grade students, come from diverse backgrounds--from kids who can read at the 4th grade level to college-bound kids who plan on taking advanced placement courses until they finish high-school. Two thirds of my students belong to the Architecture, Film and Digital Arts Magnet, and chose our school in order to get the best education that will prepare them for higher academics and the competitive professional world out there. But great expectations do not necessarily come with budget, and today we can barely afford to replace old LCD lamps.

My Project

If you were my student, as you entered my classroom you would find a thought-provoking "journal question" ready for you on the screen. Answering the journal often will bring you quickly and intuitively to the very concept of the lesson. In other parts of some lessons, you will watch short 5-19 minutes video clips or animations, and if the lesson includes a hands-on activity or lab, the screen will provide directions, and sometimes class-collected data. The attached document camera enables projection of sample materials, and showcases student work that we reflect on and analyze. Yes, the LCD projector is always at the heart of the lesson. But the projector I am using is gradually giving deteriorating images with a dark yellow background, even when the lamps are brand new. Once my students and I receive the new projector, the science material will suddenly become clear and present, and the lesson will run as smoothly as can be.

The LCD projector is like a hand I offer to bring my students up the rock of science.

It is the center equipment in my classroom. It will improve my students' comprehension of the science material, and most likely, it will improve the health of some of my students' eyes.
