Light Up Student Learning with Hands-on Electricity
The cost of 5 electricity kits to give students a hands-on, cooperative way to learn about circuits and electricity is $880, including shipping and <a target="new" href="http://www.donorschoose.org/html/fulfillment.htm" onclick="g_openWindow('http://www.donorschoose.org/html/fulfillment.htm', 300, 800, 'fulfillwindow');return false;">fulfillment</a>.

Hooray! This project is fully funded
Students can be conductors of electricity! California Standards state that students must "know... simple series and parallel circuits by using components such as wires, batteries, and bulbs" and "know electric currents produce magnetic fields and know how to build a simple electromagnet." As a teacher, I want my students to learn these standards using hands-on science. Using an introductory electricity kit, students will learn how circuits work, and how to create a simple electromagnet.
I teach at a school where 25% of students are limited English speakers and many of our students are socioeconomically disadvantaged. I feel my students deserve learning experiences that are meaningful and memorable... experiences that textbooks alone cannot provide. I am asking for 5 electricity kits so my students can work cooperatively in teams. Each kit provides all necessary materials for building series and parallel circuits, conductors and insulators, using motors, electromagnets, etc. Knowing my students, I can see their faces being "lit up" with excitement!
