My students need the experience of exploring the properties of color and light while building math, language, science and economic skills at the same time.
The students in my Pre-K classroom are between the ages of 4 and 5 years old. Students come from various cultural and academic backgrounds. Many of my students also come from different ethnic backgrounds and speak Korsan, Marshallese, and Spanish.
100 percent of my students live in poverty and more than sixty percent of them are English Language Learners.
The majority of my students have limited real life experiences and I want to provide my classroom with activities that encourage them to explore their world. I would like to offer thoughtful learning and growing opportunities by adding manipulatives to our Tabletop Light Panel. These accessories will allow children to discover color, images and reflections. My students will also have an up-close view of nature as they explore in a hands on approach. As a part of our studies about natural resources, my students will be able to explore pictures of nature, thus learning about all of the resources our earth provides. By instilling a love of nature, they will be learning to protect our natural resources. Endless learning possibilities await my students when we “Light Up Their Lives.”
My Project
In order to take better academic advantage of my Tabletop Light Panel, I would like to offer the opportunity for my students to use the Rainbow Pyramid Stackers for stacking, nesting and patterning. They can use the Crystal Climbers to build colorful designs. Dominoes can be used for increasing number skills and matching numbers. Upper case and lowercase letters can be used to build words and phrases. And, the Nature Slides for an up-close view of natural resources. Building fine motor skills will be an added benefit for my students. These manipulatives will be a great addition to an already kid favorite Science Center.
