Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am a Special Ed Preschool teacher and have 18 amazing students. We are a half day program so we pack a lot of fun and learning into our morning and afternoon sessions. My classroom has some outstanding students that are lively, spunky, and capable.
I need to adapt things for my students with mobility issues so they feel fully included.
My students have a hunger for learning and love experiencing new things. They take joy in the little things and great pride when they accomplish a task.
My Project
I have always admired light tables from afar. Whenever I've seen them in other teacher's classrooms or in educational magazines I've always had this desire to have one in my classroom one day.
Unfortunately light tables are expensive and not typically considered to be an essential item needed for education.
I read recently that children are naturally drawn to the glow from a light table and will typically engage with items on the table longer. You can play with a variety of manipulative on a light table that covers topics in math, science and literacy.
Activities done on the light table will not only be exciting and fun for the child, but will help build their academic stamina as they stay engaged with an activity for longer periods of time. This is something that I am always trying to work on with my students as they struggle with attending to tasks for longer periods of time.
This light table will do wonders in my classroom and will be something that all of my tiny humans will enjoy.
