Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My goal is to make my classroom fun and engaging. I want my students to love coming to school and to be active learners!
I have 24 kindergarten and transitional kindergarten students.
They come to school each day with big smiles on their faces and are ready to learn. Several students in my class have ADHD and one student is Autistic. My goal is to meet the needs of all of the learners in my classroom. I teach in a low-income school with a high number of English language learners. My school is innovative and offers a wide variety of after-school clubs to give opportunities to students that many probably wouldn't have otherwise.
My Project
A sensory bin or tray can be helpful for any child but particularly children who are fidgety, have a sensory processing disorder, ADHD, anxiety or autism.
I am requesting light table to use with our sensory bins which will support students in my class with ADHD and other special needs.
I will put sensory trays on top of the light table with translucent beads and other materials. Letters or other manipulatives will be placed in the bins for the students to dig through or use tongs to pull out. I will switch the items out for different learning manipulatives (letter cards, number cards, picture cards, etc.). Students will pull a card and have a learning activity to do with it. What a great way to incorporate hands-on learning through play while targeting students will special sensory needs. The light table takes engagement to a whole new level because of the novelty. It will help to encourage play and language skills while giving my students the sensory input they need to stay engaged and focused.
