My preschool students are energetic, curious, tender-hearted 4 and 5-year-olds that thrive on learning. They are part of a state-run program called The Great Start Readiness Program that helps children who are considered high risk. We help prepare them for kindergarten and to develop a love for learning that will grow throughout their academic career.
Hands-on learning is our thing!
We focus on developing literacy, mathematical, and social skills through supported play. In order to maintain an academically rich environment, we have to provide the students with materials that they can explore and manipulate to practice higher thinking skills.
My Project
The light table and building materials will make a huge difference in our students learning. Our high risk students love to build, but currently we are limited with the amount of science, technology, engineering, and mathematical materials that we have.
The gentle glow of the light table naturally draws preschoolers in and can help extend their attention spans while enhancing their higher thinking skills.
Children tend to stay for longer periods of time with a light table and this can give us more opportunities to expand their learning experience. The building materials that we are asking for are all open ended and will give the children the opportunity to use their imagination and create something unique.
