Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
The student population at my school is 95% Hispanic, 3% African American, 1% Caucasian, and 1% Asian. Over 80% of the students in my room are learning English as a second language. I see about a thousand students every week, from kindergarten to grade five.
My school is located in one of the poorest areas of the state.
Our families are plagued by poverty and high unemployment rates. All of the students receive free or reduced-price lunch, and some of them even go home with food on the weekends.

Science is fun.
Science is life. Science is magic. Science is cool. Science is so much more than boring descriptions on a page. Science is the wide-eyed discovery of something amazing and special. It is the "so super cool" discovery that something is not as it appears.
By incorporating other classic studies like Math into Art, it really can make a connection with my K-5 Art students.
We will use the coloring-changing Philips hue lights and lamps to work with Kindergarten by incorporating science and learning about Bioluminescence and painting with fluorescent colors into Art. We will use fluorescent paints that will allow me to make connections to what students are learning in their general education classrooms. The lights will make the neon colors pop and glow as we learn about science and underwater creatures. Art integrated lessons with science and other classic studies have been linked to improved standardized test scores, have individualized learning opportunities, and improved attendance.
I have purchased small tables and lamps but now need proper lighting! Help me brighten our art room and encourage learning, please!
