Help me give my students a light table, manipulatives, and sorting trays to encourage exploration and enhance literacy, math, and writing skills in a fun and playful way.
The preschool years are such a fundamental time in a child's life. Foundational skills are laid down that will impact future learning. My goal as a teacher is to bring learning to life and make it real for my young students. My class consists of twenty amazing students who range from 3-5 years old, many of whom come from low-income families. Learning experiences usually do not come from traveling to museums, historic sites, or far-away destinations. However, naturally, young children have a desire to explore, figure things out, and learn. I hope to use those tendencies to build upon their love of learning. Like every child, my students deserve the best opportunity to learn and succeed. With your help, I plan to do just that.
My Project
Children are naturally drawn to light and the light table will add a whole new dimension to learning. Children can explore how light changes and passes through objects while building and creating with manipulatives. The light table will not only be used for science and discovery, but will enhance the learning of math and literacy skills through play. While children are building skills and engaged in exploration, they are working on their budding attention spans. The light table will also create a quiet space where children can relax from the loudness of the classroom. The capabilities of incorporating a light table into the classroom are endless and it will be a helpful tool in my students' learning.
