My students need tablets to practice basic skills in math, science, reading and social studies.

My students are a fantastic group of young people. They go through many struggles in their young lives, and have overcome many obstacles. My group of students are diverse and come from different backgrounds. Almost all of them come from low income homes. Some of them have disabilities. They attend the charter school because their families believe in our mission and want better for them. They have formed a love for learning and want to be at school. They work hard every day despite the difficult circumstances of their home life. Our curriculum is challenging and rigorous, but my students are tackling it with enthusiasm, and are grateful for the opportunities they are given. I am excited to come to school to learn and grow with them every day.
Technological literacy is becoming more and more necessary in present day education. It is important for children, especially those who might not have access to technology at home, to learn how to use technology in school. My students need practice in foundational skills, such as number sense and phonics. There are currently thousands of apps and programs that help children practice these skills while having fun and preparing them for the future.
Easy access to tablets in the classroom would open up a world of opportunity for the children.
Using tablets can help struggling students. Some uses would include, utilizing the camera to record the steps of solving a math problem, rather than writing it down. They can use speech-to-text apps to explain the results of a science experiment. They can view videos from around the world. They can listen to audio books and so much more.
