As a Kindergarten teacher, in a low income/high poverty school district, with 60% of the population being English Language Learners, my students face challenges both in and out of school. Just as they are very diverse in their backgrounds, they are equally as diverse in their learning styles. In a world where they have little choice, my focus is to create a loving, welcoming, kid-friendly environment where they are engaged and have a choice in their own learning!
My Kinderbabies are a very energetic group, of which 65% are Spanish speaking students, who love coming to school and learning new things!
They love to work with their fellow classmates through hands-on activities and also love having a choice in their learning!
These items for this project will help my students interact with their peers while keeping them engaged! The Tabletop Light Box along with the Discovery Kits, Transparent Blocks, and Shapes will spark their creativity, while they are learning basic skills and standards needed in Kindergarten to build the foundation to become successful. My students are over 65% Hispanic and English Language Learners. Hands-on learning is the best way of reaching every student at his or her level. These manipulatives will promote language development through peer interaction, STEM activities to support math and science education, and most of all, make learning fun. My hope and goal is to get them intrigued and involved in their own education. I’m so excited about the possibilities and watching their imaginations and minds grow while using these materials in my classroom! We will definitely be ‘Lighting Up’ our way of learning this year!
