My school focus this year is on the importance of Education Excellence. We are a Title I school and many of our students are from low-income families. In addition, one hundred percent of the students that are enrolled in my Head Start program are low income and are not exposed or likely to be successful without this program. Therefore, I would like to offer my pre-kindergarten class the opportunity to help close the achievement gaps that are apparent among our student population with improved materials in the classroom.
My Project
These materials will allow my students to explore and have hands-on fun while manipulating the accessories on the Color Changing Light Table. The table is very versatile tool that can be used for open-ended play experiences in arts and crafts, to teaching academic concepts, and much more! The light table will add a new interest to our science and math areas. The students will explore shapes, letters, numbers, make patterns and use critical thinking skills while engaging with the hands-on manipulatives.
Not only will this light table be good for science, but it will encourage an increased vocabulary, communication and fine motor skills for these Pre-K students.
This will make a huge difference in the lives of these young learners. Maybe even creating some future engineers.
