Help me give my students access to the use of a light box in order to transfer an image from one source to another and some additional storage space for the workstation.
Students at my school are just as varied as you might expect for a school of 800 students. However what I have noticed is that they are as a rule respectful, kind and considerate to each other and their teachers. They are inclusive so that no matter how unique and different someone is they always have a place at the table. Foreign exchange students are embraced and celebrated for their culture, musicians are celebrated for musicial talents and athletes are cheered for their abilities. Really everyone at our school readily interacts with each other and does so in a kind way. An example is how our students received a national award for our unified basketball program which is all about supporting each other. There is always some kind of fundraiser happening to help those less fortunate and it is always done with enthusiasm and commitment. Another example is this past fall when there was an international walk out day for climate change awareness. Our students worked with faculty to come up with an event that satisfied their need to peacefully protest at the same time it complied with the needs of the school to have students engaged in learning.
My Project
The light boxes will create a busy station in my classroom especially when we are making preliminary drawings which is all the time! This station will allow students to transfer an image from one thing to another without having to find an out door window to prop their drawing on in order to trace. Image transfer can really help the process of image making and take down barriers for students who might lose motivation if told to draw it again. The light box is a great tool for students to have practice with especially if they plan to go into a career in arts.
Many kinds of industry professionals use light boxes in their work.
From graphic designers and painters, to comic book artists and animators. Painters can use ligh boxes much like projectors, Light boxes can be used to create the under drawing for student paintings weather it's watercolor or acrylic which saves time on having to free hand your base drawing. Doing this will also allow you to get in the best amount of replicated detail with precision without having to constantly stop to look back and fourth at your reference material.
For animation and cartooning light boxes are an essential tool for animators when it comes to frame by frame animation. It allows animators to create duplicate frames and make their edits to each frame drastically cutting the animation process time in half rather than just free handing every frame piece by piece and cross checking to make sure each frame looks exactly the same.
In short adding this to my classroom setting will greatly enhance students capabilities and better prepare them for many whatever career path they choose.
