Our students come from many diverse backgrounds and socioeconomic statuses. Some of our students are English Language Learners and have completely immersed themselves into learning a new language. Our students come from all areas of our city including some areas that have high pockets of poverty. All students receive free breakfast and lunch.
Our school is part of the New York, Pre-K for All Initiative.
This is the forth year this program has been implemented. As educators, we take pride in being pioneers of this new initiative. However, with the lack of materials, it hinders our ability to provide a quality Pre-K program for all students.
We work collaboratively to make it possible, but feel our students could achieve so much more with the necessary tools. We want our students to be prepared and successful in their future school endeavors.
This project is to get a light table for my classroom. This light table would give the students a different perspective on projects and in their world. First, I would use it with different types of beads we have and then as they got used to it, I would use it as a way for students to learn to trace, write, and count. This would be so beneficial as students begin learning how to write their names and the letters in the alphabet. It is so important at this age for students to have different ways to experiment with their world.
