This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My hope for my art I students is to at least be able to create a wonderful still life drawing with the addition of shades, tints, and values.
Some of my art I students have never been exposed to an art class before.
Sometimes they HAVE been exposed, but have no interest or creativity. Most of my art I students are 9th grade students. Some are upperclassmen that may have avoided art like the plague because of their lack of interest.
My Project
We need a light table in the art room. My Art I students are sometimes shy when it comes to creativity. I try to motivate them by sometimes allowing them to trace objects or parts of objects. Once the items are traced students can begin to add the details and values to help bring the drawing to life.
I believe that once they have done this a few times it will help to build their confidence in their drawing abilities.
I think with practice their skills will improve over time and they will soar with self-esteem knowing that now they can complete sketching and drawing assignments without assistance.
