Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
"I found an "a","a" alligator", a child exclaims while engaging with materials in the sensory table. Each day I get to see twenty tiny minds engage in learning in an excited and authentic way. I love teaching four year olds because of their enthusiasm for learning.
I am especially inspired by my current group of students because they are not only learning the alphabet for the first time, but English.
We are a Title I school which caters to a large population of ESL learners. I adore working with this population of students. They never cease to exceed my expectations and tackle learning a new language with determination.
My Project
There is something about a light table that makes the early childhood classroom a more magical. The light table is both soothing and engaging to small children.
I have requested a light table for my classroom to allow my students to explore academic concepts in a way that utilizes sensory input .
Light tables have been shown to help children in focusing a attention. This ability to attend to and persist in a task is a vital skill that my four year olds must learn in order to be successful in there school careers.
Light tables also allow children to explore images, colors, and nature in greater detail. At this point in their school career my children are so curious and open to learning. I want to be able to expose them to new and interesting materials, and information so that they can develop an inward desire to learn. Just think about a child examining X-rays on the light table at four years old may develop a interest and passion for anatomy that would guide them to a career in medicine.
