This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are all students between the ages of three and five years old with a variety of different special needs in an urban public school. They thrive on learning through play and hands on pre-academic activities and centers. My students always have lots of energy and look forward to engaging in a variety of activities through out their day in our classroom. I love that my students are so enthusiastic and that they are very inquisitive about the world around them. They are happy to be at school learning and growing every day.
My Project
My teaching experience has taught me that light can impact learning and sensory processing in my students. Having a light table and the manipulatives that can be placed on the light table will allow my students to have sensory supports in an innovative way to help them engage in interactive learning opportunities. They will also be able to engage in fine motor activities, early literacy, science inquiry and early math skills with manipulatives and centers presented on the light table. My students will also work on social skills naturally through sharing and cooperative play with peers at the light table.
