Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My second grade class is comprised of 30 amazing students, many of which speak multiple languages and nearly everyone qualifies for free or reduced lunch.
Many of my students tell me about the bad things that they see everyday--in their homes, neighborhood, and in the media and I always challenge them to see how they can be a problem solver, and fix whatever evils they see in the world.In my classroom, I don't ask my students what they want to be when they grow up.
I believe that they don't have to wait until they grow up to fix things--they can be world changes even now!
My Project
Where I teach, nearly all of my students qualify for free or reduced lunches. I chose to teach at this school because I believe that every student--regardless of background--should have the same opportunity to reach for their highest potential.
The classroom that I create is in no way cookie-cutter--and neither are my students; since no two students are alike, I will use these tablets in order to differentiate and meet the needs of my thirty students.
Since the needs and interests of my students are all varied, I will use the tablets to help create successful habits so students can read books online, gain mathematical automaticity through playing games, research a topic during writer's workshop or become more engaged in lessons using Kahoot and Nearpod on the tablets.
While students are using the Kindle Fire tablets, they will be encased in a protective cover just in case. Although my students are highly responsible, accidents can happen, so the case ensures that students will be able to use the Kindle Fire tablets for years to come. While there will be time for students to the tablets to learn collaboratively, there will also be time for students to work independently using the headphones that are included in the project.
All three of these items will work in tandem to help students to become to most successful version of themselves! Thank you for considering donating to my project!
