Imagine this: a group of teenagers walking around the school grounds holding their cameras close to their chests looking of any small insect to take close up picture of. Next they run to the computer lab to upload their pictures to admire the intricate features of those creatures that are invisible to the naked eye.
I teach photography to the diverse group of students in an economically and ethnically diverse high school located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean.
Hawaii’s tropical climate allows my students to spend a lot of time outdoors, playing various sports or going to the beach. Like most teenagers around the world these days, they like to surf the net, however, their preferred type of surfing is at the beach, caching the waves of clear waters of the Pacific Ocean. They are very curious about nature that surrounds them. After graduating from high school or college, a lot of my students don’t leave the islands. They seek employment or business opportunities aligned to the local economy, where the truism is the leading job creating industry, brings approximately 60% revenue each year. Many of my students will end up working for various tourist related careers.
My Project
I am asking for the Canon digital camera with one lens. With this camera, my students will be able to learn the aperture, shutter speed and ISO. Each of those settings allows to take pictures in various light conditions, or to achieve particular effect.
The Canon Rebel T6 will help my students became proficient in using basic settings in digital camera.
My students need to use this kind of camera on a daily basis. Learning to use the digital camera to its fullest potential requires constant practice and experimentation with the settings in various light conditions.For sport photography students need to understand how the shutter speed can affect the quality of that shot. Learning to take adventure of the aperture priority setting, students will be able to use the short depth of field to create intimate images with emphasis on the subject matter. Since digital cameras have became ubiquitous in today’s digital world, we should teach our students to use them properly.
