Help me give my students the hands on sensory experience of using a light table to learn math, literacy and science skills all while learning social skills of sharing materials and items.
My classroom is a self-contained special ed preschool classroom set up for children on the Autism Spectrum. Our building serves only at-risk children and we have a very high poverty rate with all of our students receiving free breakfast and lunch.
My students have varying abilities of communication, motor skills, cognitive skills, and social skills.
Most of the students in my classroom start on their third birthday whenever that falls throughout the year. We work on building a communication system for each child. We focus a lot on communication, social and academic skills. Our goal is to help our students with their sensory needs to become regulated in order to learn and interact with peers.
My Project
My students need the latest technology in education to spark their interest and engagement in math and literacy activities. My students will have a wonderful time using the light table and materials to explore their sensory needs, increase their social, literacy and math skills. They love hands-on activities that allow them to be creative and explore in their own ways.
My students are visual learners and need to be provided with a variety of visual stimuli to learn new skills.
We have a list of activities we are waiting to do with the light table as soon as we get it. The multi-model approach to learning is wonderful for my students. They will be thrilled to have a new item to learn with.
